| "I am death." |
| - Cob |
Cob is an optional boss, being found near Hugo after Carnival has been defeated. He represents the zodiac sign of Aries.
Profile[]
Appearance[]
Cob is a relatively small sheep, sporting long wool, horns that curl backwards, and pitch black ears and legs.
He is always seen facing away.
Personality[]
Cob, like Source, speaks to the Batter in a concise, matter-of-fact manner, not addressing him directly for the duration of the fight. Cob makes solemn statements about what has become of the world until he is defeated. Once the battle is over, Cob explains his nature, the consequences of the Batter's actions, and the inevitability of his return. Despite his true identity and lethality, Cob never shows any aggression, instead calmly asking the Batter to have no fear of him. Cob's personality and lack of moral judgement upon the Batter could be likened to a psychopomp, a spirit which guides souls from Earth to the afterlife.
In Battle[]
Cob always acts in the same pattern. Healing himself, attacking, watching, vilifying, healing you, then killing.
The sole reward for defeating Cob is an achievement.

Pre-Combat
Cob: Oh
Is that you, Source?
No, you're not. You're someone else.
Don't come near.
~75% HP
Cob: There's no one in the houses of these towns.
~50% HP
Cob: The stars of this sky have no name.
Post-Combat
Cob: I leave, but what I am remains.
You can destroy everything else, but not this.
There was a city, there were living beings inside.
Everything went away, but I stayed.
I am death.
Don't be afraid of me, you carry my pith and I'll be back soon.
This has been my home from the start.
I leave, but what I am remains.
Trivia[]
- All of Cob's competences have different internal names than their in-game names.
- Cob's name may be derived from the French corbeau. The word translates directly to "crow", but corbeau has other uses or definitions also implicating death.
- Those who collected and transported the dead or dying victims of plagues were referred to as corbeaux. It was once used colloquially as a term for anyone employed in funeral services, though the term is dated.
- There are some literary idioms in French containing the word, wherein corbeau is used to refer to a bearer of bad news or a notice of death.
