Throughout the game, The Batter encounters a number of varying adversaries with differing characteristics and attacks. By defeating, or as The Batter and the game refer to it, by "purifying" them, he can gain experience, level up, and receive new items.

Common Spectres[]

There are two different entities these enemies can be shown as:

Common Spectre 1[]

"???" are stat increasing competences. This is never explicitly stated, and can only be discovered upon viewing this enemy's stats in RPGMaker. Each competence seems to have a its own animation (named in the table), even though all three are similar.

  • The Pastel-burnt itself doesn't drop anything. The 4 Elsen heads (1 and 2) drops 300 experience each (a total of 1200 experience), and the last one (2) has a 100% chance to drop Silent Symbol.

Note: Can be defeated by attacking the head that occasionally appears. It will spawn four times, three heads 1 and one head 2. Killing all the heads will kill the body in turn, automatically ending the battle. The body can also be killed without targeting the head (if there is one), but you have to kill it after the body in order to end the battle.

  • In concept art, January's name was originally "Metal Monkey".
  • Gilles de Rais is named after a 15th century French baron and general who was convicted and executed for child killing. According to some concept art, his name may have initially been "Witkins". The name would have probably come from Joel-Peter Witkin, a photographer who took pictures of rather macabre things.
  • The name "Massu" may come from the Sicilian word "rassu", which means fat or grease. Which would make sense considering Massu's paunchy physique.
  • The term Suzerain for the Competence "Aspirating Suzerain" refers to a feudal lord in Arabic.
  • Von Gacy's name could be a reference to John Wayne Gacy, an American serial killer.
  • Blind Spectre, Mute Spectre, and Crown of the Dead's English names are all loose approximations, meaning that each one might be inaccurate.
  • The Competence "Heaven's Smile" is a possible reference to the fictitious terrorist organization "Heaven Smile" from Killer7.
